Hotel Tara Palace, Chandni Chowk Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Tara Palace, Chandni Chowk feels like stepping into Old Delhi’s beating heart — and honestly, that’s exactly what you’re doing. This three-star property sits right in the thick of things on Esplanade Road, where the energy is absolutely electric and you can smell the street food from blocks away. The lobby might not blow you away with marble floors or crystal chandeliers, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the place that puts you at ease immediately. The staff greets you warmly, and the check-in process is straightforward and efficient.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally in the Old Cycle Market area, which means you can walk to Red Fort in about ten minutes and get lost in Chandni Chowk’s maze of shops without needing any transport. New Delhi can be overwhelming, but this spot gives you that authentic experience without feeling completely thrown to the wolves. Couples seem to absolutely love it here — there’s something romantic about exploring those narrow lanes together, even if it gets a bit chaotic during the day. The neighborhood pulses with life, culture, and history at every corner.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly, which honestly matters more than you’d think in this part of the city. Air conditioning was a lifesaver (trust me on this), and the bed was comfortable enough after long days of sightseeing. The windows give you glimpses of the bustling street life below, though you might want to keep them closed if you’re sensitive to noise — Old Delhi doesn’t really do quiet. Each room is equipped with essential amenities and maintains high standards of cleanliness.
Breakfast & Dining
Breakfast here actually surprised me in the best way. They’ve got Continental, Vegetarian, and American options, which covers most bases pretty well. The vegetarian spread is particularly good — makes sense given the location and local preferences. I found myself going back for seconds of their Indian breakfast items, which felt more authentic than the usual hotel fare. There’s no fancy restaurant setup, but the dining area gets the job done and the staff genuinely seems to care about getting your day started right.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a place where you’ll spend much time lounging around the hotel — and that’s actually perfect for what it is. You’re here to explore one of the world’s most incredible historic neighborhoods, and Hotel Tara Palace gives you a clean, safe base to return to after your adventures. The staff knows the area inside and out, so don’t hesitate to ask for directions or recommendations. It’s that sweet spot where you get genuine Delhi character without sacrificing basic comfort, and honestly, that balance is harder to find than you might think. The value for money here is exceptional.
Locals suggest to book apartments in Delhi around Greater Kailash for cafe culture, artisan markets, and leafy lanes.

Reviews of Hotel Tara Palace, Chandni Chowk

This hotel should have some appeal for a certain type of savvy traveler (less suitable for the dainty or the squeamish). If you’ve stayed in Paharganj, and are over it, this may be your cup of tea. The hotel has a very clandestine feel. It is located toward the end of a narrow dead end ally in the cycle mart. Bicycle tires are stacked high just a few feet from the front door. Around the corner men are sitting on the ground assembling bicycles and lacing wheels. Don’t be put off by the dingy sign for the hotel at the front of the ally. My room seemed to be newly renovated, the shower was hot, and the bed extremely comfortable. The staff was highly responsive and helpful. Room service is available 24 hours and a roof affords excellent views in all directions of some the most iconic buildings in Delhi.
What could be improved: There was some noise during the day, probably due to ongoing renovations. This is probably on me for failing to request a non-smoking room, but there was an ashtray and a faint stale smoke odor when I first arrived. You’ll certainly fine some places to eat, but not the plethora of dining options of some other neighborhoods.James from Australia – 20 October 2024 (8/10)
This hotel is in simply fantastic spot near Chandni Chowk. The views from the roof are spectacular, across the fairground to the Red Fort, right to Jama Masjid, left to a Jain temple and a Hindu temple.
The vegetarian food is delicious and the staff are great. It was our third stay here.
What could be improved: Some rooms are being renovated. No problem but worth notingAftab from India – 18 October 2024 (6/10)
I like its central location in Old Delhi, near to Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, and Red Fort.
What could be improved: Because it is centrally located it's a very hustle and bustle, I do not recommend that travelers who are seeking peace and calm choose this place.Emma from Australia – 29 June 2024 (8/10)
Great location in Old Dehli, close to the Red Fort and markets.
Staff were fantastic and willing to offer any assistance needed.
Hotel has a restaurant which is handy. Our breakfast was included and there was a choice of western or several Indian breakfasts. All were great. We also had dinner there one night and again great local food. The service was fabulous too. A table all to ourselves on the rooftop.
What could be improved: Was a bit noisy, also renovations were going on so a bit dusty.Agata from Poland – 12 May 2024 (6/10)
clean, great localization
What could be improved: the hotel is located in a very poor surrounding. You see people sleeping on the ground next to the hotel.Nalin from India – 16 April 2024 (8/10)
Good staff, service. Hotel in narrow lane. Not accesseable by vehicle. Need to walk 100-150 meters. Good for Chandni chowk shoppingApproach to hotel

I stayed at this hotel about 12 years ago for the location, great location for Old Delhi. All staff were friendly and very helpful. Elevator, a nice rooftop view. Good room service, and good food. Good WiFi. I would return again for the location, staff, and price. Daniel- USA.
What could be improved: The neighborhood around the hotel is not the best, I assumed it was safe and had no issues even at night. Don't expect hot water in the shower or sink, warm at best. No room/maid service unless requested, I was there 4 nights.Lynn from United States – 9 February 2024 (7/10)

Good welcome, goos service and comfortable room
What could be improved: Difficult to find the entrance in the middle of Old Delhi
