This three-star property sits just 500 meters from New Delhi Railway Station — and honestly, that proximity is both a blessing and exactly what you’d expect from the location. The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Delhi hotel vibe, but there’s something welcoming about the entrance that sets it apart from the dozens of other options lining these busy streets.

Location & Getting Around

You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re literally in the thick of everything without being overwhelmed by it. New Delhi Railway Station is close enough that you can actually walk there with luggage — I mean, it’s doable even in Delhi’s heat. Paharganj has this reputation for being backpacker central, which it sort of is, but Hotel Ajanta manages to feel removed from the hostel crowd while keeping you connected to all the action. The main bazaar is right there when you want street food and shopping, but you can actually get some peace when you retreat to the hotel. There’s parking available too, which honestly surprised me given how tight space is in this area.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was clean and functional — exactly what you want when you’re using Delhi as a base for exploring. Nothing fancy, but the AC worked well (crucial in summer), and the bed was actually comfortable. What I appreciated most was how quiet it felt despite being so close to the railway station. The windows are decent quality, and you’re not dealing with constant train noise like I expected. The bathroom was compact but well-maintained, with hot water that came quickly — small details that matter when you’re tired from traveling.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup here is better than you’d expect from a mid-range Delhi hotel. They do both continental and buffet options, and while it’s not going to blow your mind, it’s solid and filling. The restaurant area has this comfortable, unhurried feel where you can actually plan your day over coffee without feeling rushed. I found myself lingering there most mornings, partly because the staff was genuinely helpful with directions and recommendations, and partly because it felt like a calm pocket before diving into Delhi’s intensity.

Why Guests Love It

What really works about Hotel Ajanta is how it balances accessibility with comfort. Couples seem particularly drawn to it — and I can see why, since you get that authentic Delhi neighborhood experience without sacrificing basic comforts or safety. The staff knows the area inside and out, which becomes invaluable when you’re trying to navigate Paharganj’s maze of streets and vendors. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does — providing a reliable, well-located base in one of Delhi’s most vibrant areas — it does really well. For the price point and location, you’re getting genuine value rather than just convenience.

  The room was comfortable and well-maintained. A special appreciation to Gunjan at the front desk, who was exceptionally courteous and attentive—she truly understood and responded to our needs with great efficiency.
  
  However, the only areas of concern were the delayed room service, which required multiple follow-ups, and the internet connectivity issues, which were only resolved after being escalated to the front desk on the 6th or 7th day of our stay.
  
  A heartfelt thanks to Rashid bhai at the travel desk for organizing our sightseeing tours of Delhi and Agra—both the arrangements and the drivers provided an excellent experience for my family. Also, a special mention to the elderly gentleman in the restaurant who regularly served us with warmth and dedication (regretfully, we didn’t get his name).
  
  Overall, thank you for a pleasant and memorable stay at Ajanta Hotel.
  
  What could be improved: There is nothing that i dint like but yes the tea can be done better.

  A lovely hotel in busy Paharganj. Near the train station. Comfy bed and great air conditioning. Stand out kind staff who are really helpful. The cafe breakfast was amazing. Highly recommend.

  Located on the main hotel street near New Delhi Railway Station, it's easy to find. The hotel has a historical feel, but everything is well-organized, and the staff are very friendly. The breakfast is delicious, and the room is clean and tidy.
  
  What could be improved: The twin room is quite small and has a strange paint smell.

  The place is elegant, safe, clean and above all has 24-hr restaurant cafe ready to cater for your needs. Reception is also available 24 so you can be accommodated even if you arrive at 2am.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing really big deal. But my room didn't have a window. It wasn't a big deal so I didn't bother asking to be moved.

  Fantastic location.
  Easy to access from metro,train,car, tuktuk or on foot.
  Restaurant with great buffet breakfast.
  Short walk to Connaught Place, Main Bazaar, metro, New Delhi railway station.

  This hotel was excellent. Very clean and the rooms were even a bit fancy. We were stressed about leaving our bags here while we travelled around India. They took care of them for us for two weeks and it didn't cost a lot. The rooms were excellent and the adjoining restaurant was really good. The breakfast buffet was superb (and varied each day) and the limitless buffet coffee was the best we had in India. The staff were very professional and accomodating, their airport transfers (with 8 bags!) was flawless.
  
  What could be improved: It's not that the street outside is dirty and crazy (as other people have said) but that the location is a bit boring. There's no other restaurants or cafes nearby and you need a rickshaw if you're going to New Dehli station. The Paharganj tourist strip is about 10 minutes walk away. I would however recommend going to Bikaner Sweet Store, which is nearby.
